Dr. Sun graduated and got his M.D. degree from PUMC in 1956. Beginning from 1959, he started to work in Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He was a visiting professor in M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1979-1981. He is the pioneer of medical oncology in China, and well known for his contributions in research of new anti-cancer drugs, development of multi-modality in common malignancies, research using traditional Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of cancer , and the development of clinical oncology in China. He ever worked for WHO, UICC, ACOS and IASLC, for years, and with world reputation. He is full member of ASCO, ACOS, member of IASLC and ESMO. Currently he is the director of National GCP Center for Anticancer Drugs in Cancer Hospital, NCC, CAMS, and professor of clinical oncology in PUMC. He is the leading medical oncologist in our country. Currently is president of CSMO, vice president of CCF, honorary president of ACOS and CSCO. He was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering ( CAE) in 1999. More than half a century, he got many awards from both China and international organizations. He was the PI of many new anticancer drugs developed in China, such as N-formyl sarcolysin, harringtonin and homo-harringtonin, pingyangmysin, rhEndostatin ( Endostar), Rg3 from gensing, icotinib, kanlaite and Elememe..And as co-PI in China for the clinical trials of letrazol, gifinitib , sorafinib, ermsirolimus,,vandetanib, neratinib amirubicin and S-1. In 2012 he got the Special Contribution Award of Wu Jieping and Pual Janssen; and the Life-long Contribution Award from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical School. In 2013, he got the KB Lim Awards fron APCC and Live- long Contribution Awards from CSCO He published 380 scientific articles, and edited 43 books in the field of clinical oncology. He trained 46 fellows 42 for MD.& PhD and 4 for master degree. Under his instruction, there have been more than 1200 oncologists from other province or cities received one year training in his department.
